As China and Vietnam strengthen their cooperation in many areas, the importance of the Chinese language in Vietnam is also on the rise. Since 2002, when Chinese officially became part of Vietnam's school curriculum, the number of students choosing to learn Chinese has been steadily increasing, and Chinese has been included as an optional foreign language in Vietnam's high school exams.

Statistics from Vietnam's Ministry of Education show that by 2016, Chinese had become the first foreign language in many secondary and high schools in Vietnam. Starting from 2017, the teaching of Chinese began to expand to younger students, with some elementary schools also introducing Chinese courses. To further improve the quality of Chinese education in Vietnam, China announced in 2022 that it would provide at least 1,000 government scholarships and 1,000 International Chinese Teacher Scholarships to Vietnam over the next five years.

By 2023, Vietnam's Ministry of Education officially declared that from 2024 onwards, Chinese would be included as a compulsory subject in the curriculum for third and fourth graders, making Vietnam the fifth country in the world to make Chinese a required subject.

In higher education, Chinese language education in Vietnam has also made significant progress. Top universities in Vietnam, including Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University, have established departments of Chinese Language and Culture, offering comprehensive Chinese education from undergraduate to doctoral levels. The excellent performance of Vietnamese university students in international Chinese language competitions also proves the high quality of Chinese education in Vietnam.

With the continuous deepening of Sino-Vietnamese friendship, more and more Vietnamese students are choosing to study in China. According to statistics, during the 2022-2023 academic year, more than 23,000 Vietnamese students studied in China. This trend not only promotes mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries, especially the younger generation, but also builds a bridge for cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Vietnam.
